SKD Report: High Point Market Spring Trends

We are finally back from High Point Market and ready to round up all our favorites from the trip, and of course, report all the trends we saw!

If you followed our stories on Instagram, thank you!! We absolutely love knowing that you’re along for the ride!

The biggest theme we observed at High Point Market this spring continued to be a shift towards natural, textural items, with clean, modern lines. This trend has been building for a while now, especially in home remodeling, where an indoor-outdoor feel and natural materials are more popular than ever. It’s so cool to watch the big design trends trickle down to the furniture market! We saw so many things made of (or inspired by) handmade and natural materials, like rattan, clay / plaster, jute, woven cane, etc.

I’m breaking down this big trend into five smaller trends we noticed, which I’ll walk you through below. I hope you enjoy our finds, and don’t forget to leave us a note below to tell us your favorite!

High Point Market Spring Trend: Green Everything

It’s no secret that green has been playing a big role in home décor trends recently.  Hunter Green is becoming a new neutral, and we are so digging it! We saw TONS of green palm leaves, branches, and foliage this market (again, no surprise, especially for Spring) but we were pleasantly surprised to see so many green finishes on casegoods! We love how the showrooms pair the rich green with lots of natural textures, which keep things from feeling too glam.

Gorgeous, vibrant green velvets on upholstery… We saw a lot of stock upholstery being introduced in green! We even saw dark green leather…

stephaniekrausdesigns-pa-mainline-interior-design-trends-2019-green-leather.jpg

Fun leafy green pattern play, mixed with lots of matte textures…

Some new dark green finishes on casegoods…

We loved this simple art – so striking!!

High Point Market Spring Trend: White Plaster

White plaster is another trend that has been building for quite some time, but really blew up this spring.  We especially saw this trend on light fixtures!! The plaster’s texture with the matte white finish creates a super clean look that doesn’t feel too modern.

The original plaster…

stephaniekrausdesigns-pa-mainline-interior-design-trends-2019-white-plaster.jpg

And the new version! We love it on casegoods and table lamps…

In modern lines on lighting…

We also saw a lot of branch-inspired light fixtures in this finish!

High Point Market Spring Trend: Faux Raffia

You know I love a good grasscloth wallpaper, but raffia on upholstery?? You betcha! We’ve seen plenty of raffia on casegoods, but this market we saw so much raffia or faux raffia fabric on soft upholstery. Chairs, beds, pillows, you name it. It adds amazing texture, but is still soft to the touch and comfortable! We are so excited to see this trend grow!

Here it is on the back of upholstered chairs…

A fun raffia headboard with matching pillows AND duvet…

Some faux raffia fabric on another duvet cover and throw pillow… these were both super soft to the touch, if you can believe it!

High Point Market Spring Trend: Feathers and Fringe

Another nature-inspired element that had a serious moment this market. We saw so many fringed mirrors and feathered light fixtures!

stephaniekrausdesigns-pa-mainline-interior-design-trends-2019-feathers-lighting.jpg
stephaniekrausdesigns-pa-mainline-interior-design-trends-2019-feathers-lighting.jpg

Can you even stand how cute these light fixtures are?! We could see these hanging in a girl’s bedroom…

stephaniekrausdesigns-pa-mainline-interior-design-trends-2019-feathers-lighting.jpg

… or having a seriously glamorous moment on a funky entry table!

stephaniekrausdesigns-pa-mainline-interior-design-trends-2019-feathers-lamp.jpg

We loved this cool fringed pendant and side table…

And don’t get me started on all the fringe mirrors we saw!! We don’t see this trend going away anytime soon…

High Point Market Spring Trend: Wood with Woven Cane

Cane and rattan have been everywhere the last few years at market, and they are only getting MORE prominent, if that’s even possible.  It feels like every company was offering cane now, and we aren’t complaining! Here are some of our favorite examples, we especially love the natural cane…

So many awesome chairs with caning detail!!

We loved these little cane benches too!

As for ongoing trends that are still going strong, vintage textiles and rugs aren’t going away anytime soon…

B&A - A Breezy Butler’s Pantry & Dramatic Dining Room

My team and I are dashing off to High Point this week, but before we head there I wanted to share a dining room and butler’s pantry Before and After.

We’ve been working on this large Main Line home for a few years now, designing it room by room! You can read more about the bold library we designed in this blog post here: Before and After - Teal Blue Library.

For the second phase of this project, we redesigned the dining room and a dual-function butler’s pantry/office. I can’t wait to show you inside...

Dining Room

BEFORE

57W8NTZ_.jpg

A little yellow, a little lackluster, but the room has great bones. Look at the original chandelier and the height of the ceilings and windows! And of course, we’ll be zhushing up those classic chippendale chairs.

AFTER

From sunshine yellow to…

190306-SKD_Wayne_001.jpg

...dark grey drama!

Bright fuschia accents are stunning against a backdrop of dramatically dark walls, trim, and mantle. The Scalamandre roman shades and brass bar cart (far corner) complement the traditional chandelier, wingback chairs, and this elegant gilded mirror.

Professional tip: The most economical way to refresh a space is by adding a dramatic paint color.

F63EF2A3-57C1-4C15-92AC-A85A1F592388.jpg

We gave these chairs a lot of love by reupholstering the seats in a rich fuschia velvet.

190306-SKD_Wayne_002.jpg

The sophisticated Scalamandre shades, drapery, and chair introduce a touch of modern-day chic that still speaks to the traditional architecture of the house.

190306-SKD_Wayne_003.jpg

Every dining room needs a bar cart! We chose this simple cart in brushed brass to complement the gilded mirror and other touches of brass throughout the space. It was the perfect setup to place in this little nook.

Meanwhile, the abstract floral painting brings the whole design together with bold color and a modern feel.  Pour us a drink, and we’ll stay here forever! Just kidding, AW!

Butler’s Pantry / Office

We redesigned this dual-function butler’s pantry and office next. The dimensions of this space posed the greatest challenge. Narrow spaces can end up looking dark  and dreary if you’re not careful.

You’ll see what I mean in the Before photo...

BEFORE

A great space, beautiful original cabinets, but in need of a serious refresh. We also wanted a stylish new space for this adorable cutie to stash his candy!

AFTER

The traditional Le Touches wallpaper creates movement in the space without feeling too busy, and the ebony roman shade makes the white of the wallcovering pop even more. Fresh, bright and fun -- mission accomplished.

That pendant is one of our favorites, too. Selecting frosted glass hides dirt... which is important when you have 9½ foot ceilings!

190306-SKD_Wayne_005.jpg

These cabinets are original to the house, and options for desk chairs that would fit were abysmal. So we chose a structured jute pouf. It doesn't take up much space and can easily be stored underneath when our client isn't working. Plus, it ties in the freshly oiled butcher block countertops and adds much needed texture to the room.

190306-SKD_Wayne_006.jpg

Greenery, greenery, greenery. It’s so important when styling your space. This is the perfect spot for my client to create flower arrangements prior to dinner parties and holiday entertaining.

That’s it for now, but make sure to follow along with our Instagram stories over the next week — I’ll be posting all my fabulous finds from High Point there.

And don't forget to subscribe to our blog/newsletter, or you’ll miss our High Point Trend Report coming later this month!

In the meantime, thank you so much for being a part of our design journey. We love having you in our tribe — it means the world to us!

See you soon,
Stephanie

Top 25 Favorite Design Finds from High Point Market

Whew! Talk about an insane week in High Point! We returned from the market hardly a week ago, and we’re still recovering from three long days of nonstop browsing, talking, Instagramming (is that a verb?), workshopping, and browsing some more.

It was exhausting but AMAZING.

If you followed along with our Instagram Stories, I’d like to thank you for accompanying us on our  trip! ;)

If you didn’t see the stories, don’t worry. I’m including some of my favorite finds, although truth be told, it’s been nearly impossible to narrow them down. To keep my design love in check, I’m limiting my sharing to these categories...

  • Chairs

  • Lighting

  • Wall & table decor

  • Sofas

Alright, let’s take a look at some of these beauties!

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-chairs.jpg

This is what heaven must look like.

The Best Chair Designs of High Point Market…

...in my humble opinion!

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-chairs-caning.jpg
stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-chairs-caning.png

I fell in love with not one, but TWO chairs with caning. Look how sophisticated and tasteful caning is. There’s no other word for it… it’s a timeless classic.

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-chair.jpg

Indoor or out, this chair is simply divine. Doesn’t it call out to you with promises of rest and relaxation? That’s a call I’ll happily answer.

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-chairs-best.jpg

I came. I saw. I purchased!

Keep your eyes peeled for this beautiful bar stool in one of our upcoming design reveals.

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-chairs-coastal.jpg

The backs of these chairs… creative, classy, coastal. Need I say more?

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-chairs-wood.jpg

Whoa! This stunning chair stole the show in its little corner of High Point Market. I can’t vouch for comfort, but it is undoubtedly fab!

burl-wood-high-point-market-stephanie-kraus-designs.jpg

I love effortless details, like the grain in this burl wood. When natural materials have a character of their own, it can elevate the whole design. Yes, please.

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-chairs-office.png

There is something about the back of this chair that leaves me speechless. Some beauty can’t be described in words. Just take a moment to admire this one for me, please.

When you’re done, let’s take a look at some upholstered chairs...

high-point-market-glamorous-upholstered-two-tone-chair-stephanie-kraus.jpg

This chair completely took me by surprise. When the seat fabric doesn’t match the chair fabric, I usually cringe… but this one I’m actually on board with! Elegantly done.

french-macaroon-inspired-chair-high-point-market-stephanie-kraus-design.jpg

This chair reminds me a bit of a French macaroon: delicate, layered, and oh so pretty.

leather-chair-beautiful-high-point-market-stephanie-kraus-mainline-pa.jpg

This stunner had my mind going crazy with design ideas. Picture this chair in a suave gentleman’s den, a home library, or let it star in a bright white living room. See? There’s no bad situation!

The Best Pendants, Lamp & Chandelier from High Point Market

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-texture-lamp.jpg

The subtly curving wood beads are beautiful on this lamp, but the whole scene is a work of art too. Textured neutrals are my jam.

black-bead-chandelier-high-point-market-stephanie-kraus-design.jpg

Here’s another piece that had my inner designer in a frenzy. You know I love lighting (blog post on this topic coming in the near future!) and you know I love lighting with tasteful wooden beads...

Enter, beautiful black beaded chandelier, and I think I’m in love.

Can you picture this in an all-white room?? Two words: Show. Stopper.

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-pendant.jpg

In my IG Stories, I asked whether you liked this gold-framed pendant in white or black. Black won! I have to agree that it has a bit more character and charisma than the white. Nice choice. ;)

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-pendant-wood.png

You may have noticed a wood-inspired theme with most of these picks so far. This dome pendant is the last one, so enjoy it! I love how the design mixes a glamorous polished nickel with the wood’s casual feel. Fun but classy.

Creative Wall & Table Decor from High Point Market

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-wall-decor-art.jpg
stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-decor-wall-art.jpg
stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-wall-art.jpg

These beautiful galleries caught my eyes as soon as I passed them. Black and white + moody blues + touches of gold = right up my alley! You know me.

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-mirror.jpg

Mirror, mirror, on the wall… in which client’s home will you appear this fall? (You’ll find out!)

high-point-market-pampas-grass-south-american-flowering-plant.PNG
pampas-grass-design-high-point-market.png

This feathery plant is called pampas grass and was EVERYWHERE at High Point Market this fall. I love the whimsical touch it adds to a space.

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-room-design.jpg

Another scene that words won’t do justice. Just observe. Everything about this is Yes.

A Few Fave Sofas from High Point Market

stephanie-kraus-interior-design-high-point-market-chairs.jpg

I love it when the process of making the design becomes part of the design. The stitching on this chair is beautiful — as a design element on its own and as an ode to its craftsman!

chair-details-high-piont-market-stephanie-kraus-fave-finds.PNG

More trim details that I just love. There’s something about a dark trim on a light piece of furniture that looks so clean and classic. I saw quite a bit of this style at the market. Top notch.

Alright, that’s it for my finds from this year — thanks for journeying through these with me!

I know it’s difficult, but if you had to pick one, which is your favorite??

Before and After

Here is a project that was finished awhile ago but we just got around to photographing.

I absolutely adore working with this family and I'm so appreciative that they allowed me this opportunity and they trusted my vision!

The first room I helped transform was their cozy family room den

Here is the BEFORE

AFTER

Family Den

A study in neutrals...

Beautiful new built-ins were added to give height and dimension and architectural interest to the room. We also added brass library sconces from Visual Comfort and roman shades with simple greek key trim.

I love the warmth of the worn leather sofa from Restoration Hardware and the coolness of the dark gray walls. It's truly one of my favorite combinations.

We chose chelsea gray walls paired with lots of white for high contrast and to add depth and light to the space.

We also mixed metals and textures in styling the bookshelves... brass, mercury glass, lacquer, driftwood and creamy white objects.

It's all in the details...

We added a pair of mirrors flanking the bar area to make the space feel larger and reflect light from the large picture window.

The bar cabinetry was painted high-gloss white and the hardware was upgraded to a brass faucet and marble counter tops and back splash were added.

did u spy camera? need to photoshop these pics ha!

Loved keeping this space neutral. I think most people like my colorful designs but I do love designing neutral spaces too!

Moving right along ...scenes from  the "before" Dining Room

Dining Room NOW! WOW!

We kept the window treatments and most of my client's beautiful furniture so we jazzed up the space with green grass cloth from Phillip Jeffries, new host chairs with pillow fabric from Aerin Lauder's line for Lee Jofa  and colorful modern art. The grasscloth has now become the star of the show!!

We also upgraded the lighting with classic yet modern fixtures from Visual Comfort and leopard lamps from Dana Gibson.

Table by oopmh sits next to window seat

And let's not forget this lovely little powder with Scalamandre and a striped roman...
