Fun and Fabulous Family Room Room ... Before and After

I think this is the first time I'm sharing these pictures with you. This room was completed awhile back.

I don't have any "before" pictures of this space but I do have  progress shots I'll share below. This family room is in an old, stately stone Tudor house located in a gorgeous main line neighborhood.

Our mission for the room was to make it fun, colorful and comfortable for a family of six. They're huge sports fans (hockey is their fave) and there is a ginormous TV to host family and friends and watch all kinds of sporting events.

The original trim throughout the home was stained oak. You can see the original trim below to the left.

I suggested we paint all the trim, fireplace, windows and interior doors of this room a high gloss black to keep it sophisticated and the walls white for a beautiful neutral back drop.

Here are the french doors painted high gloss. This was back in 2014 now its most definitely on trend as I told my client we were way ahead of our time:)

There are two gorgeous large windows in this room that were also painted a rich black.

It was a STUNNING transformation.

 Loved it.

It also helped make the TV disappear in between the two large freshly painted windows.

The color scheme we chose was black, blue and white and pops of orange and pink. My client wanted FUN, not stuffy for her kids so that was what we went for!

There is a TON of seating in this space which I love. You can have a large group in here and there are so many places to sit you would never have to run to another room to grab a chair (those with large family parties know exactly what I'm talking about).

We chose a sectional and two chairs by CR Laine , a pair of x- benches, two ottomans and two chippendale chairs flanking a console table. All pieces had to have durable fabrics. The sectional is covered in a gray sunbrella and the other pieces in very durable fabrics as well.

Here's a good look at the room

Client update - a blue and white family room!

Here's my latest blue and white project.
Sharing at the Pink Pagoda Blue and White Bash!

Another case of chair envy has emerged.

This little slice of heaven was delivered to my client today.

Mind. Blown.  I mean...

Ain't she a beaut?

And what's even better is that there are two of them!
So it's double the fun:)

The chairs will be paired with this bright and shiny blue oomph coffee table. oooh -- I just love oomph.

We had a custom glass top made to fit over the raffia so the kids could safely put their drinks on the table and mom doesn't have to worry about staining (I think mom may have been more worried about red wine stains:)

While the above pieces will be the stars .... this luxurious sectional will be the workhorse in the room.

This family of six will be hanging relaxing and watching hockey games.
 They are huge Ranger fans!

JUST KIDDING!!!!!! They are FLYERS FANS! xoxo

Don't you just love the brass nail heads? so chic.

Please note some of the other fabrics we are auditioning for this room lying on the sofa. AMAZING.

Slowly moving along

I have a few updates I wanted to share.

Here are pillows ready for delivery.

FABULOUS! I know. Can't stand it.

The fabric is Kravet and only available to the trade.

They look soooo gooooood.

I hate to see them leave me:(

I mean they look incredible in my living room.

They are just the perfect pop!

Maybe I'll tell my client they dropped out of my car and got all nasty from the slushy mess.

I'm also dropping off this rug sample from Company C. Great rug for anyone looking for a gray patterned carpet.

I just had these framed and will deliver them next week. They're  a part of a mini-bedroom- refresh. I won't forget to share the pictures next week after I hang them.

Elephant prints available here at the Pink Pagoda for only $35 a print!

And what about all of that black trim? Well it's been painted out. Waiting for furniture that will arrive in early March.

That is one hellava TV!!

Painting out the windows on both sides has really helped the TV blend in (said no one ever)...

Just kidding LW!!

To be continued ....

New client project ... and we have black trim thank you very much!

Okay I'm pretending the electricity will be coming back on any minute now (those of you who live in the suburbs of philly know what I'm talking about) but to distract me I have
an awesome new client with incredible taste that I'd like to share with you.

We are starting phase one of our design plan for her living room.

This house is a magnificent and grand old tudor with lots of charm, character, spacious rooms and most importantly... an amazing family.

The design star of this room will be the high-gloss black painted trim. LOVE.

You can see the old, unpainted wood on the fireplace in the below picture. And the freshly painted high gloss black door to the right of the fireplace (shun your eyes if you hate to see wood painted)

Don't you love??? So rich and glam.

Here's the other side of the room...

How gorgeous are those windows? Original to the home:)

Like all design projects it's still going to be awhile before this room is finished but we did order the main pieces of furniture so we hope to be finished this room in three months --- I know, I know. ughh. But the design process can be loooooong --- but also tons of fun at the same time!! I'll keep you posted.

Looking for a good magazine to read while either waiting for your electricity to come on or relax by the fire?

My dog broke my computer, black trimmings and client updates

And we're back.

I went radio silent for a bit last week because my 70 pound golden doodle was lounging on the sofa next to my computer and stretched his legs and BAM! Computer hit the floor smashing my screen.

Oh well, luckily the screen was covered by a two-year warranty I have absolutely no recollection of purchasing but must pat myself on the back for having the foresight to do so. I really do surprise myself sometimes:)

Anyhoo, I've got lots to get too...
I know I should be obsessing over holiday decorating and gift-giving.

 But I'm not.

So I thought I'd share my current obsession ...  black trimmings and I'm not talking for the tree.

All images via pinterest

I know I've touched upon this subject in my last post.

But I'm thinking a  great way to dabble in this rich and glam black paint thang is to start with one room and paint out the windows (they have to be wood with wood inserts), french door or trim in one room and see what you think. Like we learned in kindergarten just a dab will do.

But, I'll betcha a million dollars you'll love it. I know it's scary but it's just paint, right? I'd love for you to take the plunge in your own home and send me pictures of your project. I have a few clients who are almost convinced!!! Hoping to share their progress in the new year.

Speaking of clients....

I've got a big WOW factor planned for this big, empty indigo blue wall!
I first saw this artwork on Calling it Home's blog and have been dreaming about using it ever since.

Four of these babies on either side of the window.

HELLO MAJOR IMPACT!!!

You can buy these prints or other fabulous ones from the amazingly talented Jennifer at the Pink Pagoda's etsy shop hereOnce they're
 hung I'll share!

One last client update .... You know I 've been singing the praises of Crypton fabric for clients who have small children, muddy dogs and messy husbands.

I just went to check on the progress of a family room where we covered two chairs in a greyish linen crypton fabric and there has been red wine,  baby spit-up and messy, grimy snack-filled hands all over these chairs and guess what???

They look brand new!!

Here's a looksie. Now we 're doing some MAJOR construction in this room so I won't share the whole room pics yet but here's a sneak peek.

Here's the awesome crypton chairs -- do you see that drink table in between from Bliss studio??

here

It's a fabulous, sturdy and stylish brass table for those of you with small kids. It's heavy and won't tip over like a garden seat and wont break like a glass table yet it's stylish funky and modern!

The yellow paint will be replaced with

DRAMA!!!!

Benjamin Moore's Chelsea grey - a deep rich grey paint. Who knows we might even go crazy and paint the trim the same color in high gloss. If not we're going with a crisp white!!

We are installing built-ins on either side of a window painted white or grey with this sconce above the shelves.

These sconces will go on either side of the fireplace in brass.

This Flush mount will light up the ceiling

All available from Circa Lighting.

This ikat fabric will make an appearance by way of a few pillows mixed in with some grey leopard ones.

Beacon Hill

And the fabric to the far right will serve as trim on the neutral curtains.

And this classic sofa

will be paired with these ottomans.

Thoughts, questions, concerns??

I think I may want to move in after I get finished with this space.
