Before and After Beach House Part 3

Back to the beach... I know, I know Christmas is around the corner and winter is settling in but I'm still thinking beach:).

So i thought I'd continue the tour of the Avalon house.
If you missed the previous beach house posts you can go here and here.

Let's head upstairs to the family room/dining room. This is how the owners found the space.

Family Room/Dining Room Before

Below are the sofas we re-purposed here for this space.

So how did we approach this space? First we repainted all of the dark paneling decorators white and added new cypress hardwood floors. We also removed the stone fireplace. This was not in the original plan due to budget constraints but we discovered it was unstable and unable to hold the TV so we removed the stone and added new dry wall. For a little pop we painted the interior of the fireplace box a bright blue.

We kept my client's coffee table and just styled it. We also added new slip-covered sofas and linen swivel chairs from Lee industries.

To add just the right amount of color and pattern, we added custom made Quadrille pillows with a bright blue contrast welt. The pillows you see on the swivel chairs I bought retail and added the perfect color trim to the plain white pillows. And we hung a large colorful abstract in between the sliders.

The cool light fixture above the table is from Anthropologie and the dining table was custom made by the owner.

One last look.

Teenage Bedroom Refresh Before and After

So one more mini-makeover before I share the rest of the beach house before and afters. If you missed the previous beach house posts you can go here and here.

But first, here's a quick teen bedroom makeover for a client's daughter. It was her Halloween/Birthday surprise.

I have worked fast before but this one REALLY takes the cake.

We only had two weeks to complete this. Yikes! I had to buy everything on the spot practically right there on sight after I took measurements. We could only purchase items that would arrive in one week. Challenging yet so fun!

Here is the before
(It was used as a storage space)

My client's daughter wanted a more sophisticated color palate and uncluttered space so we painted the walls classic gray and all the trim super white by benjamin moore.  The room was given a clean, fresh start. She also loves black and white and loves sailing in the summer. So we incorporated that into her room as well.

Here is the after

(not the best pictures it was POURING down rain that day)

Table lamps and nightstands from Pottery Barn Teen
Chair custom Stephanie Kraus Designs

leopard pillow Etsy, lambswool pillow West Elm

I just love pairing leopard with black and white!

Bedding Bloomingdales

The shoes were a gift from here mom.... LUCKY gal!

Just some navy paint after

Simple, clean uncluttered and perfect for a teen!

Colorful dining rooms!

It's been quite awhile since my last blog post. I'm super busy with design projects and this poor little blog has been neglected as of late.

But as many of you can relate too I'm knee deep in kids activities, birthday parties, sports and teen dances. And honestly, I don't want to miss a thing.

In the immortal words of Ferris Beuller....

I started this blog almost two years ago to share ideas for all of you do-it-yourselfers out there who share my passion for decorating and design. The goal of this blog has always been to share images of design work by others and myself to help inspire what you do in your own home.

In addition, I like to realistically portray the design process. You must start with an overall plan and budget for your space. Design not only takes money, it takes time to carefully plan and execute a beautiful space.
It doesn't happen overnight and your design plan can evolve into something different than originally planned over a period of time. So you're not alone in taking your time with design decisions!!

I hope I'm still accomplishing this goal .... and thanks for continuing to read:)

Okay so if you follow me on instagram you may have seen these images.

Dining rooms are typically filled with lots of hard surfaces like tables, chairs, buffets, china cabinets, consoles, etc. There are less places to add color and pattern then say a living room where there's  lots of upholstered pieces. So a great way to add color and texture to your current dining situation is on the wall! Below are two examples of rooms where I'm using colorful textured wallpaper and I love.

I've used neutral grasscloth in many spaces and I love it too but there's something about adding color and texture to a dining room that really brings the space alive.

Before
This client is keeping her grandmothers dining room pieces and wanted to keep a more traditional look with simple yet classic lines.

Where we are now....

Beautiful NEW navy textured wallpaper, host chairs, new mirror and lighting. The navy really makes her wood pieces feel rich and warm.

Still needs:
Lamps
Carpet
Draperies
New fabric for chair seats

Another fabulous example ...
Before
Client is keeping her beautiful dining room pieces as well.

Where we are now...

We added this gorgeous kelly green phillip jeffries wallcovering, wainscoating, and sconces (not seen).

Still needs:
New buffet lamps
Carpet
Accessories

And  I love how this green room partners well with her charcoal gray family room. Loving gray and green together lately!

What do you think? Have I convinced you to go bold and colorful??

And speaking of color.... you may want to run not walk to the The Blue Octagon in Malvern. Ah-MAZING home décor!

And stay tuned am using this fab wallpaper in a powder room

Client Before and After

I am working on a first floor design project with such a fun, smart and amazing couple in Bluebell! I totally adore them and their crazy dog:)

Here's where we started

Kinda of man-cavey, no?

Here's a sneak peek of where we are now
(still needs art and accessories)

Kitchen was installed by builder without my client's participation. I think she would have chosen an all-white kitchen.

What to do when you can't have the dream kitchen you always wanted?

You put in the most fab pendant lighting ever!!!

I also don't hate this gorgeous new chandy in the Dining Room.

Here's a glimpse of what was there before:(

I don't mess around when it comes to lighting and it goes without saying we are working on cleaning up that fireplace:)))))

Stay tuned for more progress on the Bluebell house! It's such a fun design project:)

Tweaking a client's space

I have this awesome new client whose style is what I would call sophisticated cottage. She called me in to help her tweak her space and "finish" the room.

Easy job for me... she has great taste.

So I'm going to show you where we started and where we are now.

Warning: not a dramatic transformation since where we started was pretty fab.

Here's where we started

Here's a peek at where we are now

Host chairs - Restoration Hardware
Light- Horchow
Monogram - Tibbar Tibbar Wayne, PA
Topiary - trade item

We replaced the heavy, wrought iron light fixture with a pretty chandelier from Horchow. We removed the piano and bird print from the back wall and are commissioning a new piece of art for that space. We replaced the white queen ann chairs with square cane back chairs for a more formal feel and added host chairs with monogrammed slip covers.

Here's where we started with the china cabinet

Where we are now

Square back cane chairs - Restoration Hardware
Clients own pottery and coral from Pottery Barn

This was a simple fix. All we did was streamline her collection of plates and pitchers and made the vignette symmetrical and added the pretty, modern geometric Thibaut wallpaper to the back of the cabinet. All we need to do now is change out the hardware for a more sleek look.

Here's where we started on the other side of the room

Here's where we are now

Table lamps - Lighting by Design
Mirror and box - Home Goods

We removed the white chest and mirrored frames and replaced them with a more modern chest and an on-trend round mirror. This really added a lot of warmth and texture to the room:)

We still have some more updates to make so stay tuned and
thanks for reading!!! xoxo

Styling

Got some more goods for the "teen girl" room.
It will be installed over the next week or so ... can't wait!

And ... just finished styling a client's bookcase.

I wrote about this room here. So here's where we started...

the Before, Before

And then floor to ceiling built-in bookshelves were added
and these fabulous sconces.

A before and an "almost" after of a client living room!

Blue and white vs. Red and Gold... thoughts?
Sharing this post at the Pink Pagoda Blue and white bash -- join me here.

We have been working on this space for quite some time now and we're still not finished but I thought I'd share anyway.
What the heck?

The feeling we were going for is a very casual living room (not stuffy or fancy) where this family of six can hang out and watch TV, do homework and have family game night!
