A mini makeover thanks to the Pink Pagoda and what I'd buy at Target

But first...pillows delivered.

Not sure if the client likes the pillows... but the cat?
She's in love.

You can read about these...

This is what the sofa looked like before the pillows and rug arrived.
I know -- wrong angle gotta get better at the before's

New rug and new pillows made a huge difference. New window treatments and tables coming soon... stay tuned!!

One more look at the After

Moving on...

We all don't have thousands of dollars to reinvent a space  but we can add impact and refresh a room on a small budget ... you just need to know how:)

Case in point. Remember this post regarding these art pieces?

prints available at the Pink Pagoda

If not you can read it here.

I kinda left you hangin'.

Well I went back to the client's house today and the art was hung and it left me speechless.

The art really brightened up the whole side of the room... don't cha think?

This wall went from ehhh ...

To the focal point of the whole room. Am so happy with it. Now all we need are window treatments!

Same house. Same day.
Different room.

All I did was add artwork to refresh this bedroom.
Didn't have time to hang it but it's gonna look fab!

I just added the prints. The client had the pillows and chairs on hand.

Looks great right? So inviting now....

You can buy the elephant prints at the Pink Pagoda too.
Love that Jennifer... she totally hooked me up!

In keeping with the budget-minded theme I went to Target on Sunday. I didn't buy anything but if I was going to--
I would have picked up these pieces

Not bad, right? Gotta love that Target!!

How to make your storage stylish!

Merry Christmas to you and your family... I hope everyone had a fun-filled and safe holiday!

Back to biz over here. Although I LOVE Christmas the amount of stuff my family accumulates in one single day is both silly and sinful at the same time.

The days after a holiday and in particular Christmas has me asking how am I ever going to get back to neutral? It's a crazy disorganized mess over here. And I'll be honest I like my churches gothic, my wine red and my house somewhat organized.

So I thought maybe there are some others out there who feel the same way so I thought I'd gather a few stylish storage options out there for us who want to get it together before the new year hits us:)

And actually whether you celebrate Christmas or not the new year is a good time to get organized. Am I right?

So after you do the

Take note of what you have left to put away and
you'll need to buy some of these for storage

Need the perfect seating arrangement? I've got the solution for you ...

Versatile and FUNctional Floor plan

I have an awesome new client with young kids.  She's so excited to freshen up her family room which is large and bright but long and narrow.

We're  going to make this space more functional for her kids so my number one priority is to make a comfortable cozy spot for the kids to watch TV and also provide additional seating for entertaining and adult conversation.

Since the room is so large I'm going to design two seating areas ... one for the kids to watch TV and one for the adults to hang out and chat and have a cocktail or two or six:)

All the while keeping in mind this could be a room that evolves and changes as her kids get older so I'm going to provide her with a very versatile floor plan.

My answer?  Four chairs and an ottoman. It's fun, fresh and modern and if she gets bored with the look someday she can move the chairs around the house!
check it below.

Here's the  floor plan

You can see the room is long and rectangular but plenty big for two seating areas.

When you walk into the room you will be greeted by the four funky fun chairs and a table that will immediately make you want to sit down, relax and stay awhile.

But if you want to catch up on the latest sponge-bob square pants episode the four chairs will not obstruct your race to the sofa. Perfect, right?

Here's a few chairs that may work in your home...

Line 'em up! A great idea for container gardening ...

I don't know about you but when I design my container garden I usually think in pairs. Two planters together with a bunch of colorful flowers or boxwoods.

Entrance at our beach house rental
This year I'm going to create a more elegant feel and use multiples of the same container with the same plant in each. Say what? Check out the below images.

It's almost like creating a living wall or border on a patio or a deck.  This look would also be pretty amazing lined up around a pool or on a porch too. I'll be honest I'm so drawn to this look ... I just love it!

The best thing? You don't need fancy or expensive planters.  In fact, I really like containers with clean simple lines for this look because the impact is all in the numbers.

Here's two I have contemplated:

The Devil is in the Details

Just picked up this trim on sale.

Love it. It's almost 2 1/2 inches wide. Substantial--that's how I like my trim. I'm gonna add it to a plain pair of panels for WAY less than $100. I found it here.

Have you ever wondered who makes the best ready-made AND inexpensive drapery panels? Of course you have. This is the best article I've ever read on the subject. Evah. Read it here. It's a long one -- so skim it. It's written by the adorable Emily Henderson of HGTV.

emily henderson
ADORABLE isn't she???
Purchase the ready-made panels add some trim detail and voila custom made draperies!

Seriously, these curtains from Serena and Lilly are screaming DIY.

Purchase the ready-made panels and add this trim.

.

They probably have the exact trim on this site I just grabbed the first picture I saw because my kids are screaming in the background. Am afraid to go down stairs now.

Ok all is well. Just a bag of potato chips thrown all around the room and my sofa is now a castle/fort. Could have been a LOT worse.

Don't have mad sewing skills? Use this to attach.  Pour a bit on a paper plate and use a small paint brush to apply a generous amount of the glue to the trim and then to your curtains. Don't worry if you get any extra glue on the panel it dries undetectable. Perfect for a little girl or teens room.

Before and After from a reader!

I am so excited I received some before and after pics from a reader. Not sure if I was more excited over the pictures or that someone is reading my blog other than my mom:)

Here is the before picture of her beautiful interior french doors:

Now here is the after:

Did you just hear that???? That was three snaps in a Z formation.

Stunning, right?

This gal has some serious style. And she's a busy realtor to boot!   She's successful and has great taste... gotta love it!

Just a simple detail like painting a french door high gloss black will make your interior feel rich and glam. Here are some other doors sporting the high gloss black thing...

Random Thoughts

For all you gals going on spring break. Best bathing suite EVER. You can buy it here. So flattering and feels comfortable. Trust me on this. I have seen everyone from 16 to 60 in this. EVERYONE looks good. Worth every red cent you will pay.

Looking for a new scent? I haven't used this in forever but just rediscovered it and it is so fresh and clean. It has to be the Magnolia version. You can buy it here.

Now let's get back to keeping it real...

Before you head to Target again check out this site. These pillows and rugs were featured there. Don't love all of her fashion picks (she's mighty young so the fashion is not for me) but its worth a looksy.

Picking up any of these for your Easter table?

Well here is an article from Whole Foods (yep I said Whole Foods) on how to get the most out of your tulips!

Dear Spring,
If you don't get here very soon I may just loose my marbles. Please hurry.
Sincerely,
Your number one fan
